Social Distancing Challenges with CORONA: The Indian Context

Why #SocialDistancing is a #challenge in #India?
My 7 challenges:
1. Dense population
2. Sanitation
3. Personal Hygiene
4. Survival need
5. Day wages
6. Communication
7. Seclusion

Were the above issues taken into consideration when we adapted the social Distancing into our Indian context??
Lets see one by one!!

1. #Population - How can we be able to tackle the population who are at high risk? Going by the data where COVID19 affects the elderly and also who are less hygienic, how far we were able to address to that group of population's needs where we have them more in number and see them day in and day out. Is somebody talking to them or do they know such a virus is spreading around. Any measures to quarantine them is happening?
2. #Sanitation - Clean India campaigns even though been going around for many years now, still sanitation in public spaces, garbage collection / disposed area, neighborhoods, drainage leakages, are still a cause of concern. And we talk about virus not spreading when we just lock inside for 14 hrs!! What an idea..
3. #PersonalHygiene - Ohhhhh.. this is something which nobody cares. How many of you seen someone spitting in the public in the last few weeks and stopped it? Yes, even though we are more knowledgeable about corona, the simple aspect of it being an air borne disease and can spread easily via this mode, still I havent come across anywhere posts about stop "spitting" (may be these are not common practices in China / Italy / etc where we adapted the corona ads - clean hands, cough etiquette and isolation). Time to rethink shouldn't we, when our "Namaste" goes Global we are happy about it. But when we need to accept a change from other countries especially like not spitting in public, not peeing in public, we just point hands.
4. #SurvivalNeed - How can we survive without the need for each other, especially in our context where we are more culturally and traditionally glued to relationships and suddenly when somebody says stay back stay home, is it possible? I doubt so.
5. #DayWages - may not be suitable for all, but predominant people in our population depends on day wages. So when we day stay at Home, Day 1.. Ok.. Day 2.. Ok.. Day 3 somewhat OK.. Day 4 OK Ok.. Day 5 Not OK.. so the need for financial crisis arises when there is a stoppage of earning opportunities.
6. #Communication - The corona caller tune has gone viral for sure, but home many of the endangered population as we seen in point no. 1 got this information? especially the ones who dont have access to a phone or doesn't know to make a call, or didn't had the need to call. Why aren't there public posters or messages on TV or announcements being made at the grass root level? Language is another story altogether..
7. #Seclusion - Well this is going to be a sensitive area for sure. When already separation - exclusion - doing the rounds amongst us for decades long, I believe this one will only add oil to the fire and even post the corona im sure certain group of people will be monitored even if they like it or not.

So some of you might ask, like my friend whom I was discussing with about these,  don't complain give me the solutions or what could you have done if you were the PM?
Oh...... that's a toughie.. but not so tough though, lets wait for the next post!! 👍

Exercising with Masks

As gradually Physiotherapy clinics and Exercise centres begins to open up, just a friendly note or a reminder on the following: 1. Wearing mask can have an effect on your breathing (air flow restriction), so be cautious and careful when your advising exercises for an individual who is having pre-existing breathing conditions. 2. Exercises for children with masks should be extra careful, as they might not understand that difficulty in breathing is mask related. 3. During Exercises, mask can displace, which will force you to correct it especially if it goes up and covers your vision field. At this point the chances of touching your face or eyes are higher. 4. Mask can get wet during Exercises due to moisture in exhaled air or sweat or secretions. Wet mask can harbour pathogens and needs to be replaced. 5. Remember wearing mask while exercising fatigues you more, so be conscious of it and set your exercise goals accordingly. In short: Exercise is beneficial. Start slowly and pr...

What is Happiness?

What is #Happiness? 💛#Money can only buy happiness up to about $75,000 – after that, it has no significant effect on our emotional well-being (Kahneman & Deaton, 2010). 💛Most of our happiness is not determined by our #genetics, but by our experiences and our day-to-day lives (Lyubomirsky, Sheldon, & Schkade, 2005). 💛Trying too hard to find happiness often has the opposite effect and can lead us to be overly #selfish (Mauss et al., 2012). 💛Pursuing happiness through #social means (e.g., spending more time with family and friends) is more likely to be effective than other methods (Rohrer, Richter, Brümmer, Wagner, & Schmukle, 2018). 💛The pursuit of happiness is one place where we should consider ditching the SMART goals; it may be more effective to pursue “vague” happiness #goals than more specific ones (Rodas, Ahluwalia, & Olson, 2018). 💛Happiness makes us better citizens – it is a good predictor of civic engagement in the #transition to adulthood (Fang, Gal...
